We wanted to highlight our rich Fredericksburg history alongside our fresh, local produce! The Fredericksburg Parent-Teacher Association has been publishing the FREDERICKSBURG HOME KITCHEN COOK BOOK since 1916. The following recipe was first published in 1948 in the 6th Edition of the cookbook and then reprinted in the 150th Anniversary of Fredericksburg 13th Edition. Ingredients
1 lb. soup meat
2 quarts cold water
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp. salt
2 cups tomatoes
1 cup lima beans
1 cups raw corn
1/2 head cabbage, chopped
4 carrots, sliced
2 cups cut green beans
1 cup diced potatoes
1/2 cup celery, chopped
1 cup okra, sliced
1 tsp. chili powder
2 Tbsp. shortening
Brown meat in shortening in large stew pot
Add water and salt, boil and cook 15 minutes
Add vegetables and simmer 1 1/2 hours
